Meet Stephen J. Wright
When I first started coaching, I quickly realised that the best sessions weren't always the ones where children learned the perfect forehand or serve.
They were the sessions where children left smiling.
The sessions where a nervous child found the confidence to join in. Where friendships were formed. Where someone who wasn't sure they liked sport couldn't wait to come back the following week.
That simple idea has shaped my coaching ever since.
In 2003, I founded International Tennis Coaching Ltd with one goal: to create coaching experiences that children genuinely enjoy while giving schools, parents and clubs a service they can trust.
More than twenty years later, that goal hasn't changed. We now have expanded and offer tennis, martial arts, multi sports, chess, cooking and much more!
My Journey
Sport has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.
While tennis has always been my greatest passion, I've been fortunate enough to experience a wide variety of sports throughout my life. Each one has taught me valuable lessons about commitment, teamwork, resilience and the importance of enjoying the journey as much as the result.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of coaching thousands of children and adults, working alongside schools, developing coaches and building long-lasting relationships with clubs and local communities. Those experiences have shaped my coaching philosophy far more than any qualification ever could.
Away from tennis, I was proud to represent England in kickboxing, competing at the World Championships in Italy. That experience later inspired the martial arts side of International Tennis Coaching and reinforced my belief that every sport has something valuable to teach.
As a junior, I represented North Harbour Football Team in New Zealand, where our team won the Counties Power Tournament and later I represented Queensland at state level squash in Australia. I've also competed regularly in Division One table tennis, completed the London Marathon, qualified as a pickleball coach and continue to enjoy playing padel tennis recreationally whenever I have the opportunity. Golf and skiing remain a work in progress!
Looking back, I don't see these as separate sporting experiences. Together, they've shaped the way I coach and the way International Tennis Coaching has evolved. They've shown me that confidence, encouragement, enjoyment and belonging are just as important as technique and results.
That's why our coaching isn't simply about learning a sport. It's about helping people develop a lifelong enjoyment of being active, building confidence and creating positive experiences that stay with them long after the session has finished.
I was also honoured to receive the Meme Griffiths Award for Outstanding Contribution to Tennis in Buckinghamshire.
While I'm grateful for this achievement and the qualifications listed above, I've learned that some of the most meaningful lessons don't come from qualifications. They come from listening to children, supporting parents, working alongside schools and continually learning from every coaching session.
What Matters Most
People often ask what makes a great coach.
For me, it isn't about having all the answers.
It's about making people feel welcome.
Children may forget exactly what they practised, but they'll remember how they felt. If they leave a session more confident than when they arrived, then we've achieved something worthwhile.
That's the standard I try to set for every coach who represents International Tennis Coaching.
Why I Wrote My Book
Throughout my career, coaches have regularly asked me for advice on everything from planning lessons and managing parents to growing confidence and running successful programmes.
Many of those conversations inspired me to write:
Insider Secrets of Tennis Coaching
50 practical answers to the coaching challenges that qualifications rarely teach
The book isn't about claiming to have all the answers. It's about sharing ideas, encouraging reflection and helping coaches continue learning. It is something I wish I had access to in the early days of my coaching career.
A Little About Me
Away from coaching, I enjoy spending time with family and my girlfriend. I enjoy travelling, playing tennis on the ITF Seniors Tour and continuing to learn about business, leadership and personal development.
I'm fascinated by the small details that make a big difference, whether that's improving a coaching session, developing a business or helping someone grow in confidence.
I still believe that the best coaches are the ones who remain curious, keep learning and never lose sight of why they started coaching in the first place.
Thank You

I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you into one of our sessions one day and show you what International Tennis Coaching is all about.
